Watching these days slip by like...

Wow, time is flying! I can’t believe it’s already been three years since I joined BEAT — first as the Administrative Coordinator, and now as the Program Director. In three quick years, I’ve seen BEAT grow into a powerful force for good. We’ve impacted thousands of New York City’s under-resourced youth and people with disabilities through our  beatboxing (Rockers) ,  breakin’ (Breakers) , and  songwriting/music production (Explorers)  programs, in addition to launching our  visual art program (Letters)  earlier this year!  We’ve also partnered with other equity-minded organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the U.S. State Department: Arts Envoy to bring our innovative programs to  youth in refugee camps in Jordan  and to schools and community centers in  India  and  Ven

Can You Believe It?

Hey BEAT Fam, Can you believe 2020 is  finally  drawing to a close? There’s no denying this has been a rough year in so many ways, and we’ve had things thrown at us that we never thought we’d have to deal with or see in our lifetimes. But as I look back, I’m realizing that not all surprises this year have been bad. The challenge of physical distancing and mandated site closures motivated us to find new and innovative ways to show our youth, especially our youth with disabilities, that their voices and abilities matter even in the midst of a pandemic. Here are just a few of the projects that are already underway as we move into 2021:  We’re partnering with  Swissbeatbox , the world’s largest beatbox platform, to launch an online community for beatboxers with disabilities.
