Otherworldy Prophesy-Beast on the Threshold Between Worlds

Yamanba the notorious mountain-

 Witch of Japanese Folklore is 
considered "Yokai" an otherworldy prophesy-Beast on the threshold between Worlds. A Social-Exile and man-Eater she is both wicked and benevolent, Associated with motherhood, female-Agency and the Earth. In japan Yokai are unauthorized Deities, as the nation went thru modernization, many of the most revered plant/animal/elemental spirits were turned ideologically against the people. In the earliest Japanese texts, yokai such as the tsuchigumo "Earth-Spider" were demonized and used to negatively characterize the indigenous peoples the authors of these texts were attempting to conquer.
