Dr. Kirkland is the Executive Director of  The NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and The Transformation of Schools . He is an activist and educator, cultural critic and author.  A leading national scholar and advocate for educational justice, Dr. Kirkland's transdisciplinary scholarship explores a variety of equity related topics: school climate and discipline; school integration and choice; culture and education; vulnerable learners; and intersections among race, gender, and education....

Look at what you fear most in the eye. Thoughts are energy. Tap into that energy and release it via acceptance, gratitude, surrender, awareness, etc. Fear is energy so it can be transmuted, changed, released. Therefore you can transform and be in a more focussed, courageous and empowered space. I realize that as silly as it sounds I fear being wrong, then fear having to change due to being wrong, fear standing up for myself and putting myself first, fear being without a secure home and fear losing my mind like the people you can see daily in NYC talking to themselves, fear not being good enough, and so on. I Affirm: "My internal mother is always here for me, protecting nourishing and soothing me. I am secure and grounded in reality. While our programming and development has grown leaps and bounds, our network hasn’t expanded as quickly. As the word “Friendraiser” suggests, this event is to raise friends (in addition to funds)! We think more people should know about the good work BEAT is doing and we hope you do too.
