In the early weeks after Kali’s birth, it was hard for me to slow down and stop doing when my identity before was very based in doing things in the world, in achieving. Motherhood necessitates more being, more slowness, becoming absolutely present and attuned. In my family dynamic, my mother played somewhat of a degraded, subservient role relative to my father and did the bulk of the household work and emotional labor without much acknowledgment or appreciation. Coming of age my life goals centered more on power and authority, and creating social change through feminist action! It wasn’t until I discovered fertility cults and goddess worship that I realized motherhood was a warrior path."
