Entitled simply Viva Loisaida, the rare film explores the Lower East Side of October 1978, “giving a brief preview before gentrification occurred.” Colorful street scenes (e.g. Tompkins Square Park, the Christodora House, bombed-out tenements) are accompanied by narration and cutaways to various local activists of the time. We hear about common landlord practice and the demographics of the neighborhood. It’s a brilliant street-level glimpse from thirty-four years ago. Viva Loisaida was filmed by Marlis Momber in October 1978, and produced by “Gruppe Dokumentation” & “Tylis.” via Blogger http://ift.tt/1kjqirw from Tumblr http://ift.tt/1ped2VB via IFTTT
